Residents interested in forming teams, and volunteering to participate in the 2014 American Cancer Society – Relay for Life are encouraged to attend a kick-off event set for Thursday, August 7, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Rio Grande City.
“Please join us to find out about important changes in the team registration process,” declares a statement from organizers posted on social media. This year’s Relay for Life event is set to take place on November 1, at the Joe R. Sanchez stadium within historic Fort Ringgold.
According to relayforlife.org, At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer. Relay For Life teams usually camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
