On Friday, December 15, 2017, the Starr County Campus Psychology Club of South Texas College hosted its 9th Annual Holiday Posada at STC Cafeteria from 5:00-7:00pm to reward the Top 25 most active members of fall 2017 semester with a dinner catered by Cactus Restaurant paid for with club funds.
STC Psychological Science Instructors and Club Advisors Eli Sarabia and Alex Sarabia presented all 25 members with a Starr Psych Club core values shirt and pen. The Top 10 most active members additionally received a certificate of appreciation and Starr Psych Club cap.
The Starr County Campus Psychology Club of South Texas College is the largest and most active student organization of all STC campuses—continuously engaged in community service/events and STC events throughout the year (even during summers), all over Starr County (Roma, Rio Grande City, Escobares, La Grulla, La Victoria).
The Top 10 Most Active Starr Psych Club Members for fall 2017 semester were: Raul Rivas (Top-Ranked Club Member of the Semester – Club President), Victoria Benavidez (Club Vice-President), Cecilia Garza (Club Communications Manager), Jorge Bazan (Club Member), Lesly Hinojosa (Club Member), Joseph Medrano (Club Member), Abraham Perez (Club Treasurer), Jacqueline Loazno (Club Member), Brendaly Sanchez (Club Secretary), and David Moreno (Club Member).
The three signature events that the Starr County Campus Psychology Club sponsored during fall 2017 semester were the 3rd Annual Starr County Campus Psychological Science Majors Orientation (September 2017), 12th Starr County Role Models Get Inspired Conference (October 2017), and 9th Starr County Mental Health Awareness Conference on “STC Counseling and Student Disability Services” (December 2017).
The Starr Psych Club, as usual, was also extremely involved in volunteer work and supported many community events throughout Starr County during fall 2017 semester that included: RGC Viva Mexico, RGC Kids Fishing Day, RGCCISD Red Ribbon Week Walkathon, Starr County Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil, RGC Unexplained Mysteries Conference & Festival, STC Starr County Campus Fall Festival, Roma’s Walk All Over Cancer, STC 9/11 and Veterans Day Ceremonies, Starr County Relay For Life where the club obtained trophy for best campsite, Starr County Industrial Foundation Talks, Winter Wonderland, RGC Public Library Storybook Christmas, to name a few. Starr Psych Club also hosted donation drives to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey and Mexico Earthquakes, its 2nd Adopt-A-Highway Trash pickup, and canned food drive/toiletries donations for Casa de Esperanza. Starr Psych Club also hosted information booth on mental health during mental illness week and presentations on suicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
