The RGC Main Street program, along with other city organizations, helped Rio Grande City officially kick-off its 2017 Christmas season with the lighting of the town’s official Christmas tree, on Wednesday evening, December 6.
Complementary snacks and refreshments were served, and several local schools participated in the ‘Festival of Trees’, Christmas tree decorating contests, and area children were able to drop off their letters to Santa in the event’s official “Letter to Santa” mail box.
The celebration also featured special guest appearances by Sparky the Fire Dog, McGruff the Crime Dog, a performance by several school dance groups, and a surprise visit from Santa himself.
The Christmas Tree, which will remain lit for the rest of the 2017 Christmas season, is located within the Kiosk on Britton Ave.
