A press release from the Rio Grande City CISD reports The RGC High School Rattlers Baseball Team held their Senior Night on Friday, April 21, at the Fort Ringgold Baseball Field.
After a very exciting game in which the Rio Grande City Rattlers hosted the Mission Veterans, Rattler senior players, #1 Javier Gonzalez, #2 Oscar Garcia, #4 Juan Carlos Perez, #5 Jose Ivan Gazca, #11 Javier Luis Garcia, #13 Aaron Garcia, #21 Nando Sepulveda and # 24 Hugo Alaniz were joined on the field by their families and supporters, where the rest of the team lined up to cheer them on as their names and biographies where announced.
Coaches then handed them each a set of gifts, a new baseball bat displaying each player’s name, a framed set photographs, and a small decorated jar. Senior players and their families then stood by their numbers which had been painted on the grass for the occasion. The crowd cheered as it was announced that each senior player would receive and a $250 scholarship courtesy of the RGC Baseball Boosters. Mr. Cesar Perez, a Rio Grande City High School Alumni and former RGC High School Baseball Player was welcomed on to the field as it was also announced that he was generously giving each senior player a $500 scholarship with the exception of Nando Sepulveda who will be receiving and a $1000 scholarship due to his commitment to play baseball at Coastal Bend College.
As is now tradition each player was invited to fill their jar with dirt from their favorite part of Rattler Field as a keepsake of their years here. After the ceremony everyone was invited to hot dogs donated by Vale and Lilly De La Garza.
