Rio Grande City Deputy City Manager, Elisa Beas, recently announced the approval of an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant that will help build the foundation for a major commercial project coming soon to Rio Grande City.
“The City of RGC has been awarded a $1,150.00 grant from the EDA, which the RGC Economic Development Corp (EDC) will match with no-less than $574,500.00, towards drainage infrastructure to aid the development of a large commercial project which will be located on Highway 83, just north of the Walmart store in Rio Grande City,” said Beas. “These funds will also help remove a large portion of land out of the flood zone. The development itself is estimated to cover approximately 38.18 acres of land.”
“This new project will not only help create jobs for Rio Grande City residents, but it will also increase the City’s tax base, and sales tax revenue,” added Beas. “Right now the City is working closely with the RGC EDC, and the Starr Co. Industrial Foundation to complete negotiations with the developer.”
