The Grulla Gators Robotics Team traveled to Houston last week to compete during the Spring Break. They attended the Lone Star Central Regional Competition held at the Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. “The competition consisted of 69 qualifying matches where our Gators Robotics Team competed in 10 of them. We were ranked #12 out of the 41 Teams that competed,” stated Mrs. Ana Cavazos, Gators Robotics Team Sponsor. From there, additional competitions were held to select the Top Three teams that would advance to the National Competition. Alliances of three teams were formed to help select them. Joel Cruz, the Gators’ Robotics Team Captain also served as the Alliance Team Captain. “With so much competition, our Alliance had to win two more matches in the Semi-Finals to advance; but were not able to reach the Finals Competition,” concluded Mrs. Cavazos.
They use the acronym FRC and it stands for FIRST Robotics Competition, where FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The Driving Team consisted of: Pedro Tinajero, Joel Cruz (Captain), Eloy Zarate and Jacob Zarate. Other Team members are: Abram Vela*, Alan Hernandez, Anahi Reyna, Armando Solis, Damian Villanueva*, Daniela Gonzalez, Daniel Rosales*, Erick Salinas, Fernando Cantu III, Itzhak Corona*, Jorge Solis, Jose Luis De La Rosa, Jose Rojas*, Julio Juarez, Karime Lozano*, Lessly Alaniz*, Luis Elizondo, Noah Ramirez, Rolando Salinas and Roxana Cruz.
