A press release from the Rio Grande CISD reports Grulla High School held their annual Scholarship Night on Thursday, May 11, at the campus cafeteria.
Parents were present to witness their child’s accomplishments. GHS students received over 650,000 dollars in local, state, and national scholarships. The Invocation was led by Delma Ozuna, Salutatorian. The Grulla High School JROTC Color Guard had the Presentation of Colors. The program continued with Clarissa Garza (4th Ranking Student) with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. Mrs. Guadalupe Garza (Grulla High School Principal) welcomed the students, parents and relatives to the event. Mr. Sebastian Dougherty (College & Career Specialist) presented all the special guests including the sponsors, Mr. Eleazar Velasquez (Board Member), and Mr. Alfredo Garcia (Superintendent).
Ms. Lydia Alvarez (GHS Head Counselor) continued the program with the presentation of scholarships with the assistance of the sponsors. Jessica Jones (Valedictorian) was responsible for the closing remarks which were followed by Dustin Zarate (3rd Ranking Student) with the Benediction. “A special thank you to all the sponsors and a huge congratulations to all the scholarship recipients,” reads a statement from the district.
