A press release from the Rio Grande City CISD reports Grulla High School Gator Band held their Spring Concert on Thursday, April 27, in the cafeteria. The Gator Jazz Band opened up the concert with several musical selections and featured several soloist.
They began with “Honk” with featured soloist, Kristian Corona, in Alto Saxophone. “Remembering Thad” with soloist, Jose Menchaca, on Flugelhorn and “Manteca” featured Kristian Corona on Alto Saxophone and Ramon Perez on Drums. The GHS Jazz Band is under the direction of Mr. Roberto Diaz.
Mr. Oscar Gonzalez (GHS Band Director) made several announce
ments as the Jazz Band cleared their instrum
ents and the Gator Band took the time to set up. Gonzalez announced the band’s accolades and introduced All Region Band Members, Area Qualifiers, and All -State Band Members. They also introduced the seniors with their parents as they gave them a small token of appreciation. The 2017-2018 Drum Majors are Damaris Flores and Yubizdely Tanguma.
The Gator Band also had three selections “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson, “Hymn from Adiemus” by Karl Jenkin, and “Beauty and the Beast” by Calvin Custer. The band is under the direction of Mr. Gonzalez.
